2022-2023 Jackrabbits Beginner Hockey Program at Sturgeon Heights Community Centre, 210 Rita Street, Winnipeg MB
Registration information:
https://permission.click/eZN1E/ca
There is no limit to the number of players we can accept. We will add more coaches as we get more registrants.
Jackrabbits hockey is a beginner hockey program that teaches skating and hockey skills in a non-competitive environment. In order for children to best enjoy the Jackrabbits program, they should possess basic skating skills. Parents are reminded that this is not a “learn to skate” program.
This hockey program is ideal for players that cannot commit to a regular hockey season or who want to “test the water” to see if hockey is a good fit for them.
Our coaches lead players through regular hockey drills and work with each player to help develop basic hockey skills. The main benefit of our program is it does not require a significant time or financial commitment, but still provides a solid foundation in skating, passing and playing in a team environment. And its very fun!
The program will run in 1 hour sessions that will be held Saturdays from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Sturgeon Heights Community Centre on the outdoor rinks. The program will commence when outdoor ice becomes available (usually mid-December) and will finish when the ice is no longer available (usually mid-March).
The first 30 minutes will be dedicated to basic skill development and the last 30 minutes will be a scrimmage. Please note: We do not have “organized ” teams. Each week the groups will change based on attendance, so we break each group into 2 teams for scrimmage play.
This program is for kids between the ages of 4 to 15 who would like to try hockey in a fun, relaxed atmosphere! Players will be broken into 3 groups (4,5,6 year olds – 7,8,9 year olds and 10+). All participants are required to have the MINIMUM hockey gear: Skates, Stick, Helmet with cage, and Hockey Gloves.
Preferred equipment would be: Skates, Stick, Helmet with cage, Hockey Gloves, Neck Guard, Mouth Guard, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, Shin Pads, Pants, Socks, and Jersey.
The cost per child is $85.00 for the entire season. If you would like to purchase a Jackrabbits jersey for your child, there is an additional charge of $38.00 (while quantities last). If a session can’t take place because of weather conditions (too cold, ice slushy, etc.) a partial refund will not be given.
